Toby Joy Zelt, the Owner of WPA, works directly with every dog. Established in 2016, Toby has a decade of off-leash, multi-sport wilderness pack experience on top of 20+ years of backcountry adventure experience with her own dogs. She is a 5 time recertified Wilderness First Responder for human care through NOLS and had adapted protocol for dogs. Toby trailblazed the niche specialty of multi-sport activities with and for dogs and WPA is the only club featuring dirt bike running and kayak swimming, among other sports. WPA’s reputation is unmatched.

We’ve spent years perfecting our risk mitigation strategies, researching and documenting hundreds of locations, and preparing for any scenario that may arise. Each dog must pass a health, behavioral, and fitness assessment prior to joining. Toby communicates to parents each day about health and safety issues. She has honed every detail of the adventure day to ensure safety, and all dogs learn what is expected of them, and around 10-15 new commands. New dogs wear a Garmin satellite GPS collar and parents are welcome to continue their use as desired. Any scenario that may arise, Toby is prepared. While there are risks inherent in these activities, it’s rare that they occur.

We don’t leave your dog’s care up to contractors who may be temporary or less committed to high standards of services. Toby ensures a personal long-term relationship with your dog where their history and individual needs fully understood, and decisions are made thoughtfully for them in real time. Learner Centered Dog Training is a method Toby developed over many years of observing dogs and working with them. Each dog has their own unique learning needs and different methods and feedback work for different dogs within various contexts. As a dog behavior expert, Toby reads the nuanced body language of dogs, which tells her when and how to respond for learning or behavior modification to take place.

After the adventure, nothing beats a dog snoozing peacefully while you work or get chores done. There’s no need to worry about their needs—it’s already done.
